PYS 6 Questions
General Questions
Perhaps because I play these games so much every year I really can't recall the subtle differences of each. I can only make a list of the big positives and negatives. Right now off the top of my head:
PYS 6
+ WBC mode with many MLB players
+ Cheaper to buy especially on ebay
- The great Spirits Translation site is not based on this version so there might be minor differences in menus, gameplay, etc
PYS 2010
+ New Grand Prix card collecting mode (although this has not yet been translated on the site.)
+ More signature animations, follow-throughs, home run poses, etc.
+ Spirits Translation site based on 2010 version.
+ PSP version is available for the first time and is really good. (According to Vernon - our site admin.)
+ PS2 version received alot of graphical upgrades and more precise controls (according to SimGamer at OS.)
+/- Revamped defense gameplay which makes outfield defense tougher to play and even more important
- More expensive
- Game cuts away after each play to the next batter too quickly. this problem was not in PYS 6.
So thats all I've got for now. Obviously you can say things like "Better graphics in 2010" but I'm not a technical guy and would just be lying if I said I can spot the major differences.
Unfortunately no. You cannot change names to english. There is a "Set Name" option which only allows you to switch the name on the name plate to the last name, first name, both, or nickname for the entire roster in the game. It does not allow you to actually go in and change a name to English.
Well I would always recommend a team like the Hawks to people because they have a bit of everything. Dragons, Tigers, Fighters, and Lions are great too. You can always use the Giants as they are the "Yankees" of Japan so every guy will hit like 30 homeruns. My least favorite team is really just the Carps because they have very few good players. Other than them you would usually find a few interesting guys on each team that makes them fun to use. -Muka-
In Japan sometimes teams travel to different regions to play for different fans, so for example you might see a small ugly park sometimes and that is a local stadium in a smaller region.
Probably not....if you dont see it in the options, you probably can't use it.
April
Konami usually announces the new game around january/february
There are 2 types of player passwords. 1 type is the ones u get from Power Pro success mode. u can build a guy in power pro and use the password in PYS and he will transfer over. you still have to make a face and so on
another type of player password is the face password in Spirits Mode so friends can share a well-made player face with each other via a password. there are some ichiro face passwords on japanese PYS fan sites and i have tried them all, but none of them are really that great to be honest. you can try to make 1 yourself from scratch and it will be about the same but no matter how good you are i dont think its possible to make 1 near the quality of the real Ichiro face they put in the WBC mode.
These are player updates. There are two during the season (April & July) and one more at the end to reflect everyone's attributes for the just-completed season so that will be the biggest one!The 3rd player update was released 8/25/10. If you dont think you have the update just have your PS3 connected online then load the game. A message will tell you an update is available (it works exactly like a patch).
Basically bunch of players on each team will see upgrade/downgrade to reflect their performance of the 2010 season. A few guys they mentioned seeing big jumps in the 3rd update are Hirano on the Tigers (I think the game had him with a D contact, but he is hitting like .340 in real life), Sho Nakata on the Fighters (see my post on this forum), T-Okada on the Buffalos (leading Pacific League with 30 homeruns in his first full season at age 22), and so on. Sadly, they still wouldn't (couldn't?) put in actual new players or foreign helpers into the game.
And finally, this will be the last update Konami will provide for PYS 2010 so enjoy the updated player attributes while we wait patiently for PYS 2011!

This turned out to be a long winded response which I dedicated a whole page to answer here...

The default level is actually quite easy as it is level 3 of 7, so if you're a pretty "schooled" sports gamer you can definately start higher. Muka put together an excellent starter guide to settings here...

Batting
This quesion got three responses so I will list all of them...
This used to happen to me a lot too Raekwan and the key for me was PATIENCE. The computer will throw a lot of bad pitches and I was always so anxious to get the RBI, I would swing at the first few pitches and hit into a weak groundout or pop up. Don't let their first few pitches fool you! Wait for the mistake pitch and just worry about getting good contact and getting the sweet spot. Dont worry about getting a flyball. Just be patient, wait for the mistake pitch/bad releases/big meatball, swing. -MUKA-
You have to bat realistically in PYS. You have to look at the strikezone as a real batter. A MLB/NPB batter DOES NOT try to cover the entire plate, but looks for a pitch in a certain zone, either up, down, in, or out. If your looking to get it in the air cut the zone in half and look for pitches up in the zone. This is another area where PYS excels and rewards you or punishes you however you look at it. A pitch up in the zone is easier to hit, thats a fact, and in PYS if you got two identical pitches except one was up in the zone and one was low in the zone and you made the exact same contact with both, the pitch up in the zone will travel much further. -PGOODY-
I like to use opposite field contact swings to hit a flyball. That way I don't have to be too precise with aiming since power swing has such a small sweet spot. With contact swings you'll get plenty of flyballs and using the opp field swing gives me an extra split second which I need because most the time I'll be looking to hit the fastball. You can still pull balls with an opposite field swing, you wont hit a home run but that's not what your looking for right?
Basically look for a fastball middle to high - preferably which you can pull. If the pitcher has a great fasball then your next option might be to look for big meaty pitches which are easier to hit. If you get good breaking balls low then good luck, it's possible but a flyball is not going to happen often. Finally, in a sac-fly situation if you're not having any luck looking at the ball then instead focus directly on the batting point. In general you should aim towards the lower half of the ball, but I find that I dont have time to get cute so I just try to make good contact in the sweet spot but try to aim a hair lower.
Also, it's good to know your players trajectory ratings which basically tells you how high their flyballs can be hit. And there are some special abilities such as "Arc specialist" and "Line drive specialist" which can help or hurt your cause.
Power swings are good for hitting doubles, deep flies and home runs. But basically in real life if you want to hit a sac fly you just want to make some good contact on high heat. Following these tips will not be a sure thing, it will still be challenging but it should will help. Go into batting practice and give it a shot. -VERNON-
Looks like a presentation piece showing Kim's 1st At-Bat where he hit a homerun to right field on the 4th pitch of the at-bat. Pitch apparently was a pitch that broke downward? (forkball, changeup, etc.) and located in the upper middle part of the zone. It was a 3 run homerun, indicated by the 3 RBI dots next to the result rectangle...
Pitching
Look at this pic:
http://www.spiritstranslation.com/_imag ... r_icon.jpg
The yellow circled word is the Japanese word for "Starter." If you see another word that's "Relief."
When I say stamina below, I'm *only* referring to pitchers and it means:
Stamina = How much energy a pitcher has per game. Basically, how many pitches can he throw per game. higher stamina = he can throw more pitches before getting tired. Stamina can be seen as the blue bar on the pitcher player card page 3, during a game in the Pitcher Stamina Bar, etc.
When I say fatigue, it means:
Fatigue = IN SEASON MODE ONLY, how tired your hitter/pitcher/any player is overall in the course of a season. the higher fatigue, the higher chance of injury. Fatigue can only be seen by the number you circled in the screenshot you posted. How fast each player recovers from fatigue depends on the FATIGUE RECOVERY RATE (which I incorrectly called the stamina recovery rate before)
To recap:
STAMINA = TALKING ABOUT PITCHER'S PITCHING ENERGY IN A GAME ONLY.
FATIGUE = THE BUILD UP OF TIRENESS IN A SEASON
Now when I said Pitcher Base Stamina (PBS) is a fixed number, what I meant was, the maximum is always a fixed number. For example, my pitcher has Base Stamina A - 60. that is the max and this stat will never change, and you can see this number on pitcher player card page 3. BUT, it is possible that after 3 months in the season, he has build up a lot of fatigue. Let's say his fatigue is up to 40. Not good. Now, his base stamina stat is still 60, but when you put him in a game, maybe you will see that the Pitcher Stamina Bar (the color bar) is not full. For example, it may only be 75% full. So he has only 45 out of possible 60 stamina. That is what I mean by PBS possibly getting smaller. Again sorry for the unclear wording. Now i should say i am not 100% sure I am correct about how HIGH FATIGUE will lead to LESS PITCHER STAMINA. but i believe this is correct from my observation.
Pennant Mode
Yes, the first few games it shows your statistics from last season. After a few games it will show your stats for this year.
"Twist" just means "some new features and surprises" in my sentence. for example, you can play as only 1 player, have awakening, etc, etc
yes these are totally random, and you get a temporary awaken state for a minor leaguer. the coach will say something like "Player A is feeling really good in the farm lately/he is on fire" so if you want you can move him up to your major team. but its temporary so after maybe 2 weeks, he will go back to normal
Yes, when there is a challenge, you will see some special screens after a game. it will show that player's photo and then you will see some text telling you how he has a mission. also i believe the menu item will have the word NEW flashing on it. you can check it then.
The Japanese word means "Surplus/Depost"and the 4 there is saying your Win-Loss record is currently 4 games ABOVE .500 (for example, 7 wins 3 losses, 14 wins 10 losses, etc). when you are below .500, you will see another set of Japanese words meaning "Debt" and a number telling you how many games you are below .500.
The trade here is like Power Pros. it takes a few days for them to get back to you
Yes, it is possible to create a player and use him in pennant race, please see the Spirits Mode section.
Yes, before every game in season mode, you can choose to play as one guy only. If you want you can use the exact same guy every time or jump around. You will have to bat obviously, but you can also choose if you want to play defense and baserun. And of course you can do the exact same thing in Stardom mode with a create-a-rookie.
Bonuses are available for certain achievements in the season - such as "10 homeruns", "10th double", "1st win", "1st save", etc
Baserunning
The Stealing Skill level is actually available on the player card. Press R2 and go to page 4. It will be listed as a special skill.
When they show your runner at your base, sometimes it displays your total steal attempts and successful steals.
PYS 6 Questions
You cannot bring Ichiro or any of the world players to the main game. The best you can do is create Ichiro and give him the real ichiro's signature stance/animation/follow throughs.
